Raised bed planting

Located in Ravenscourt Park

Raised beds require a different approach when planning the planting: they dry out quicker so the plants need to be more drought resistant than usual – they are ideal for Mediterranean and Alpine species.

The planting day follows as usual, but we use our trowels more than the spade: raised beds are easier to maintain and also very comfortable to plant sitting on the edge!

Many shade-loving plants survive in dryer conditions whilst producing beautiful flowers as well. A selection of blues and whites always makes an impact in a dark corner while some evergreens give the everlasting background.

After the planting and the pots cleared away, sometimes we spot empty places: these are the invisible boundaries where the plants will grow into once they mature enough. These can be planted with some fillers.
