description
A good example of a smooth contemporary design: this garden is simple, smart and has a clean look. The main feature is the bespoke Ipe hardwood bench with its zig-zag shape that follows the bed behind. The original crushed slate gravel was changed to a Sofia limestone terrace with bullnose edging, the walls rendered white and raised beds built for further planting. The row of pleached trees consists of four Prunus lusitanica ‘Angustifolia’ (Portugal laurel) which creates an evergreen canopy cover screen for privacy, matching the style of the evergreen planting with box balls.
“Sometimes we work with the existing features: here the bench follows the bed of an ornamental cherry tree and helps to frame it; with foxgloves underneath for more vertical height the bench has a woodland planting as a backdrop.”
