James & Rufus

Living Colour is the London-based garden design & build partnership of James Walsh and Rufus Rawley. Having completed the RHS Certificate in Horticulture as well as courses in Garden Design, Planting Design and CAD at Capel Manor College, whilst working for Chelsea Gold medal winning designer, Caspar Gabb, James and Rufus joined forces in 2003. Since then they have been building a reputation as diligent and innovative designers of urban gardens.

The gardens are built from scratch by James and Rufus themselves, whose keen eye for detail ensures that their designs make a seamless transition from drawing board to reality. Materials are chosen to complement the look of the inside of the house in order to create a natural flow from interior to exterior. Ecological planting techniques such as the use of drought tolerant plants are increasingly employed to make designs practical as well as aesthetically appealing. Planting to sustain wildlife is also a concern and an aim.

Living Colour encourages clients to opt for local and recycled materials wherever possible for construction purposes. Timbers come from sustainable sources, composts are not peat-based, and the company takes a serious attitude to how its own waste is recycled or disposed of.
